PhD vacancies
Postgraduate studentships
There are multiple routes into postgraduate study at ETLP:
- Standard fully funded PhD
- Assisted PhD and Study Visits
- Industry-supported PhD
- Bump-start PhD
- Self-funded PhD
Standard fully funded PhD
Full ETLP funding for all fees and maintenance. Candidates should have a good first degree and/or masters in geophysics, reservoir engineering, geology or geoscience.
Assisted PhD and Study Visits
Partial ETLP funding topping up a university or research council scholarship.
Industry-supported PhD
Company sponsorship for all fees and maintenance.
Bump-start PhD
Successful applicants will progress to the PhD programme on completion of one of the Engineering & Geoscience Masters programmes at the Institute of GeoEnergy Engineering, Heriot-Watt University. It is recommended that applicants have a first degree in Mathematics, Physics or a geoscience engineering subject.
Self-funded PhD
We are always looking for first class researchers and we welcome all applications from self-funded PhD Students.
Fees and finance
The Institute of Petroleum Engineering offers full, partial and fee-only scholarships for up to 3 years of postgraduate study. Partial scholarships cover full university tuition fees plus a contribution to maintenance. Applicants for partial and fee-only scholarships will be required to demonstrate that they have the balance of funding required for maintenance in place from other sources before one of these scholarships can be awarded.
